Note: Every week from 1995, Guruji started sending out knowledge sheets which he fondly called the 'Knowledge Fax' to be read out and discussed at Satsangs happening all around the world. Guruji ended this delightful practice at the 365th week in September 2002, so as to let us fully digest them! These knowledge sheets have been compiled into An Intimate Note To The Sincere Seeker Volumes 1-7. I began the practice of posting a Knowledge Sheet every week for the benefit of those who have not had the opportunity to get hold of these priceless books. It had never cease to uplift me by reading and rereading this knowledge. So I know you would certainly enjoy them!

If you say that you have no one in this world, then you are disowning me. And if you disown me, then I cannot do anything for you.
Vivek means discrimination-the knowledge that everything is changing. Time and again you have to reawaken to this-that the world, people, your body, your emotions, are all constantly changing.
When you experience sorrow, understand that vivek has been overshadowed.
Question: What am I here for?
Sri Sri: Find out what you are not here for:
1. You are not here to blame;
2. You are not here to cry;
3. You are not here to sleep;
4. You are not here to show off;
5. You are not here to fight;
6. You are not here to be miserable;
7. You are not here to be angry;
8. You are not here to worry.
When you follow fun, misery follows you...
When you follow Knowledge, fun follows you.

Girl meets boy
He was a young boy with brown hair and a dazzling smile. He scuttered around in the kitchen preparing the lunch for about 40 people. 'La la la, di da da da da...' He hummed along in an upbeat mood and his enthusiasm was contagious.
The girl who was with him, his assistant, received instructions from him to cut the cabbage, peel the potatoes and at other times, just following the young man around the kitchen to see what he was up to. He taught her about the nutritions in each food that he was about to prepare. He even knows the difference between cow's milk and goat's milk.
'I studied to be a nutritionist,' he revealed.
'Such a cool guy,' the girl thought in awe. A nutritionist who plays the guitar in recording studios as a profession.

When he had a minute to spare, they would chat a bit.
'I'll be leaving tomorrow,' he said.
'Where will you be going to?'
'I'll be going back to my country,' he continued somewhat with pride ,'I come from Israel.'
'Where will you be going to?'
'I'll be going back to my country,' he continued somewhat with pride ,'I come from Israel.'
'Oh!' the girl exclaimed in realisation, then continued with disappointment ,'I could never visit you in your country.'
The boy's expression changed a little,' Why is that so?'
'It said there in my passport. It is valid to travel to any country except Israel.'
'Maybe we could meet somewhere else?' he suggested.
'Maybe you could come and visit me in Malaysia!' the girl suggested innocently.
'Well. They don't allow you to come to my country. Do you think they would ever allow me to enter your country?' the boy replied, somewhat passionately.
'I guess we would have to meet somewhere in between,' she joked, not realising that it was going to be their first and last two days together. The friendship created an impression to last for a lifetime.

Attachments cause feverish breath and feverish breath takes away peace of mind. Then you are in pieces and you fall prey to misery.
Before you get scattered too much, gather yourself and rid your breath of feverishness through surrender and sadhana (spiritual practices). Unfortunately, most people do not notice what is happening until it is too late.
When someone is drowning in the ocean of attachments, surrender is the life jacket they can put on and wait for the rescue team. Without fighting the attachments, observe the feverish breath and go to the cool place of silence within.
Your first step is to direct your attachment to the Knowledge, to the Divine.
Your non-attachment to the mundane is your charm.
Your attachment to the Divine is your beauty.

Meditation-It's a Monkey Business
People meditate for lots of reasons, one of the main reason is to have a peace of mind. When we have lots of thoughts during meditation, we say 'oh, today I did not have a good meditation'. But in meditation, sometimes we enjoy the experience, sometimes we don't enjoy the experience (a great resemblance to life, huh!). But somehow or other, as long as we meditate, we definitely get results (Guruji said that).
To illustrate the nature of our mind, Guruji told a Monkey story.
There was a farmer who went to a Saint and said 'Give me something, so that my life becomes wonderful, give me some mantra so that I must do the meditation and good things will start happening.'
The Saint said 'Ok' and gave him a mantra and told him to chant it. The farmer was very happy and he was running down the stairs going back with his mantra. The Saint said 'Oh just a minute, I forgot to tell you something. Whenever you want to think of the mantra or when you sit for meditation, take care that the monkey doesn't come into your mind. You don't think of monkey. If you think about the monkey then the mantra would become useless, impotent. It won't be of use to you.'
The farmer said ,'Oh this is so easy. I have never thought about monkey all my life, there is no reason that I should think about it now. Mind is just a field, monkeys don't come there. It is no botheration at all.'
So, he went home and sat for meditation. The first thing that comes to his mind was:
'Say Cheese!' |
So he tried to meditate during the night. But as soon as he sat to meditate the first thing that comes to his mind was:
Now not only in meditation in all other times even while standing, sitting, working, eating, he thought of monkeys. He even had nightmares about:
You're right! Monkeys! |
In three days, he was so bothered about monkeys that on the fourth day he went back to the Saint and pleaded to him,'Please take away your mantra and your monkeys too! I don't want them. Relieve me of this monkey business. I have gone crazy. I can't do anything!'
So we have to understand the nature of our minds. Instead of being a slave to our minds, become the Master of our own minds. Thus, our practices, sadhanas and meditation really help us to understand our monkey within us. Let us strive to tame the wild monkey within us!
Talking about monkeys, there was once I went to sit for meditation alone at the Sumeru Mantap at Bengalore Ashram.
I never had any thoughts about monkeys during meditation. I almost wished I had, because when I slowly opened my eyes, I was looking into the eyes of a monkey sitting opposite me. He confidently walked a few steps across towards me, headed to my bag, and calmly took the banana from the side pocket of my backpack.
'Hey!' I yelled at him. He gave a start and ran across the floor and climbed the steps. He stopped when he saw that I did not go after him. He unpeeled the banana and ate his prized possession right in front of me.

When a worldly man is miserable, he blames the people around him, the system, and the world in general.
When a seeker is miserable, he blames not only the world-he also blames the Path, the Knowledge and himself.
It is better not to be a seeker so that you blame less. But then, a seeker (sadhak) also enjoys everything much more. There is more love in life and more pain. When there is more joy, the contrast is greater.
A certain maturity is needed to see things as they are and not to blame the Path, the Self, or the world.
If one jumps across this chasm of blame and misery, then there is no fall. It is like a quantum leap.
The Divine does not test you. Testing is part of ignorance. Who is it that will put something to a test? Only one who does not know something. God knows your capacity, so why should He have to test you?
Then, why is there misery? It is for titiksha, forbearance in you. And forbearance can be increased by prayerful surrender-and by things that vigorously challenge your patience! (laughter)
